Liminal and Eclipsing are a collective work reflecting the way I was raised abroad in Turkey and Wales - the feeling of constant transition and the search for self within the ambiguity of in-between states. In recent years, I have found comfort in natural environments – in wooded areas, rivers and landscapes that feel steady despite offering constant change. Spaces that are grounded in recurring movements, imagery and sound. This comfort has influenced the majority of my printmaking work, carving linocuts of plants and branches and taking photographs of figures and objects in natural environments. My identity as a multidisciplinary artist is rooted in this comfort, the comfort of overwhelming layers that shape how nature feels and sounds.
Recently, I’ve begun to question how much space I let myself occupy, mentally and physically, and what it means to settle into an environment. While nature offered refuge, it also became a means of physical retreat. This series of interchanging and expanding screen prints and linocuts demonstrate the concept of unshameful willingness and freedom to inhabit, move through, and exist fully in every environment.
Liminal holds the conflicting tension of letting oneself take up space while remaining grounded and protected, in a realm of comfort.
